This National Conference will focus on the optimisation of Hospital Electronic Prescribing and Medicines Administration (HePMA). The conference will examine the development of electronic prescribing systems towards advanced eprescribing, closed loop medicines administration and advanced clinical decision support; ensuring the full clinical benefits are achieved. The conference will also focus on ePrescribing and Patient Safety following the HSIB Investigation which found that “ePMA systems can create their own risks – risks that will need to be addressed as these systems become more widespread.” (HSIB). Closed Loop Medication Management (CLMM) systems are fully electronic medication management process that integrates automated and intelligent systems to manage the process of prescription, dispensing and administration of medicines, and seamlessly document all the relevant information. (HSIB)
“Electronic prescribing systems have been shown to save time and money by reducing unnecessary bureaucracy. Investing in these systems will help to save money and increase productivity for the NHS overall…Digital prescribing systems will replace outdated paper prescriptions, improving patient safety and reducing errors. The NHS is on course to eliminate paper prescribing in hospitals and achieve the NHS Long Term Plan commitment to introduce digital prescribing across the entire NHS by 2024”
“Some of the key benefits of digital systems are in reducing the risk of medication-related errors, supporting strategies to reduce overprescribing and medicines optimisation and enabling the transformation of services to improve efficiencies and most importantly providing the right support for patients.”
