As an international Doctor the transition to the NHS is not always an easy one. Different cultures, practices and structures can all represent barriers to effective working and patient care. This On-Demand conference focuses on the important issue of supporting International Doctors in the NHS, with a focus on the Covid-19 pandemic, from recruitment and induction to ongoing support. This On-Demand conference aims to improve support for International Doctors working in the NHS.
“As the NHS workforce faces the challenge of a lifetime in the response to the Covid-19 pandemic, I am concerned that some of the unique challenges IMG doctors were facing before this crisis, may now have been exacerbated… It is also incredibly important that IMGs get the wellbeing and mental health support that they need. Some IMG doctors have less family support in the UK, they may feel isolated, or unsure about how to access formal support. Covid-19 pandemic has increased these vulnerabilities for IMG doctors living alone and self-isolating. ”
“A third of doctors on the medical register today gained their qualifications outside the UK, improving the diversity of the profession, filling specialty shortages and bringing a fresh approach to healthcare.”
