Sohrab who was the opening speaker today spoke about ‘self harm and suicide’ from the perspective of a GP.

Sohrab spoke about how the UK has some of the highest rates of self-harm and there has been an increase amongst young people. GP’s play a vital role in helping those who are suicidal and offer holistic compassionate care within a safe environment.

He then spoke about ‘safe prescribing’ and said that you should not withhold treatment on the basis of suicide risk. Medication is a powerful tool that can alleviate depression and how untreated depression can be potentially fatal.
