Key findings, by NHS Digital, from a new survey conducted regarding mental health problems compared to 2017 to 2022 are as follows:
1. 7-16 year olds with probable mental disorder:
- 2017 - 12.1%
- 2022 - 16.7%
2. 17-19 year olds with probable mental disorder:
- 2017 - 10.1%
- 2022 - 25.7%
3. 11-16 year olds with probable mental disorder less likely to feel safe at school:
- 2017 - 61.2%
- 2022 - 89.2%
4. 11-16 year olds who reported social media bullying:
- 2017 - 12.6%
- 2022 - 29.4%
Young people and their families cannot be sidelined any longer by the government, who need to prioritise the crisis in youth mental health as a matter of national emergency.
These figures highlight how important it is that we do everything we can to support our children and young people with their mental health.
