This conference focuses on improving safety for care home residents. The conference will highlight best practice in improving safety in care homes, highlight new developments such as the implications of the new Patient Safety Incident Response Framework (PSIRF), and the new CQC Inspection Framework for Care homes, and will focus on key clinical safety areas such as falls prevention, medication safety, reduction and management of pressure ulcers, nutrition and hydration, identification of deterioration, management of behaviour that challenges including restrictive interventions and ensuring compassionate care.
Care homes are a crucial part of our national health and care system infrastructure and the safety and wellbeing of residents, who are among those with the greatest care needs, is no less important than in any other setting.
Approximately 410,000 people live in care homes in the UK.. This is four per cent of the population aged 65 years and over, rising to 16 per cent of those aged 85 or more… Many residents have complex healthcare needs, reflecting multiple long-term conditions, significant disability and advanced frailty. All these factors make caring for residents an incredibly difficult job for care homes and their staff. Given this operating landscape, there are some fantastic examples of care, safety and quality improvement in care homes.
