This conference focuses on reducing and managing pressure ulcers in care homes. Pressure Ulcers are a common issue in care homes. In addition to reducing distress and negative outcomes for residents, the avoidance of pressure ulcers will also lead to a reduction in use and cost of dressings, reduced hospital admission and save staff and nursing time.
Pressure ulcers in older patients are associated with a fivefold increase in mortality.
Treating pressure ulcers costs the NHS more than £1.4 million every day.
According to data obtained from the Office of National Statistics (ONS), deaths from bedsore related health problems outnumber any other cause of death amongst care home residents over the last few years.
