This conference focuses on the important issue of improving radiology reporting turnaround times and escalation when unexpected results are identified. The conference will reflect on the October 2022 HSIB recommendations on Alerts and notifications of imaging reports and explore how to ensure optimisation of reporting, and techniques and strategies to improve digital support, moving towards imaging networks and ensure integration of Artificial Intelligence into workflow.
Timely communication and the actioning of urgent and unexpected findings is a crucial part of ensuring patient safety. There is an expectation that radiology departments will produce timely reports, flag up urgent and or critical findings and the clinical teams will acknowledge they have received and understood the reports and appropriate action has then taken place. Over many years it has become apparent that for a variety of reasons, related to both organisational and human factors, this does not always occur, resulting in patient harm. This cannot continue.
As demand for imaging grows year on year services are under increased pressure to ensure sufficient reporting capacity within their departments.
This conference will enable you to:
- Network with colleagues who are working to improve radiology reporting turnaround times and safety
- Implement the recommendations from ‘Alerts and notifications of Imaging Reports’ HSIB 2022
- Ensure adherence to the National Quality Standards for Radiology Reporting
- Learn from outstanding practice in radiology reporting
- Ensure adherence to national guidelines on reporting unexpected imaging findings – developing a failsafe system
- Improve communication, alerting and patient safety
- Reflect on national developments and learning from the Imaging Networks
- Improve the way you monitor radiology reporting turnaround times, use key performance indicators to monitor reporting times effectively, ensure board oversight and manage and escalate backlogs
- Reflect on the use of Technological advances in reporting and Artificial Intelligence
- Identify how digital imaging and the effective use of PACS and RIS can support improvement in turnaround times
- Explore the role and ensure consistency in practice of the reporting radiographer
- Identify key strategies for safe insourcing and outsourcing
- Understand the legal implications of backlogs, unreported images and staff competence in reporting
- Self assess and reflect on your own practice
- Supports CPD professional development and acts as revalidation evidence. This course provides 5 Hrs training for CPD subject to peer group approval for revalidation purposes
